Our story
A green box,
and a quiet revolution.
Why we're building Pakistan's first women-led aeroponics farm
and why we think it matters more than the strawberries inside.
I t started with a simple observation: in a country with our climate and our talent, premium fresh produce shouldn’t be this hard to come by. The strawberries on a Karachi shelf are seasonal, inconsistent, picked under-ripe to survive the journey south — and largely missing for most of the year.
A green box, a quiet revolution/ A green box that changes everything GreenBox Farms was founded with a simple vision: to grow premium quality, fresh fruits and vegetables locally, sustainably, and reliably. In Pakistan, high-quality strawberries are often limited by seasonality, an inconsistent supply, long transport routes, and post-harvest losses. We began GreenBox Farms to change that.
Founded by Anoushay Khurshid, an MSc graduate with a passion for agriculture and innovation, GreenBox Farms is a women-led agri-tech startup focused on building a smarter way to farm. By combining modern farming systems, climate control, efficient water use, and carefully selected strawberry varieties, we are working to produce fruit that is consistent in quality, taste, and freshness.
We are building the first containerised aeroponics strawberry farm in Pakistan on a 40-ft footprint in Dhabeji. We grow without soil, with up to 95% less water than the field, and zero pesticides. We hand-pick at peak ripeness. We deliver in hours, not days.
But the strawberry is only the headline. What we are really building is a model: a model for climate-smart agriculture that is sustainable, replicable, and led by women. A model that proves Pakistan can produce extraordinary food on home soil, even when in our case, there is no soil at all.
Who we are
GreenBox Farms is a women-led smart farming startup focused on producing premium strawberries (or fruits and vegetables) through controlled-environment agriculture.
Â
We use modern farming methods to create the ideal growing conditions for our crops, helping us reduce dependency on unpredictable weather, improve quality, and use water and space more efficiently.
Â
Our goal is to make premium, locally grown strawberries more accessible while building a sustainable farming model that can be scaled across Pakistan.
Built by women.
GreenBox Farms is led, operated, and harvested by women, with a women-led team on the ground, alongside a parallel apprenticeship cohort of fifteen women from the surrounding rural communities, training as controlled-environment-farming operators for phase 2.
Â
Every wage we pay lands in a bank account in her name- for many, the first they've held. Documented, traceable income that compounds beyond the job: access to credit, savings, and a financial identity of her own.
I want to prove that climate-smart agriculture can be small, beautiful, profitable — and led by women — in Pakistan, today. Not in some distant future.
The Founder
Building food systems,
not just farms.
"Every strawberry that leaves our box represents a thousand
small decisions about water, climate, labour, and care. We try to
get every one of them right."
Anoushay Khurshid is the founder and managing director of GreenBox Farms. With a background spanning agribusiness, finance, and sustainability strategy, she founded GreenBox to demonstrate that climate-smart, women-led agriculture can be both commercially viable and culturally significant in Pakistan.
She lives in Karachi and is, against her better judgement, slowly becoming the kind of person who talks about humidity sensors at dinner parties.
